Dear friend ,
Greetings from Chicago! I am here at Lawndale Christian Community Church, at a conference on how churches can best be Christ in their communities. This is not a conference about methods and formulas, it is about the practice of ‘being’. That is, being Christ to the community and being present in the community. It is about listening to the community and, like Christ did, meeting people at their point of need. I have been inspired and encouraged.
When I leave Chicago I am heading to Colorado Springs for our Global Leadership Team meetings and also to meet with the US Board of Reach Beyond. I am really looking forward to this as it is a great time to hear what each of the other country offices is doing and to strategize on how best we can help each other. I am very excited about being able to share more about our mission poles initiative with the other offices. Some have already indicated that they want to help in some way.
The other thing I am doing while in Colorado Springs is speaking at the special event called ‘The Gathering’ held at a church called the Cross and Crown. Someone saw a video interview that I was in, called ‘More than Theology’ (Pathways College) about MWCC and its origins. I was talking about the fact that God is always working and it is our job as churches and mission agencies to listen to him and obey when he talks to us. God is creative and he wants us to heed his voice and to respond to needs. I also talk about the fact that if a church is really serious about being a Gospel light, serious enough to step into the unknown, serious enough to humble themselves so that they become a redeeming place in a community, then God will honour that. Please pray for me on Saturday morning the 10th of May (NZ time) as that is when I will be speaking in Colorado Springs on Friday night.
Another very important thing I want to tell you about is that we have a new staff member. Josh Russell is joining us as our ‘Special Projects Manager’.
Josh will be part-time for 8 hours a week and we hope to increase his hours as funding allows.
Josh has been very involved with us for some time as a volunteer and has been on two Ghana trips with us. Josh has a huge skill base and is very technical and a detail person. He has worked with Bob and Robbie on the poles and their design and is now taking the lead in the Mission Poles project.
We are very lucky to have Josh as part of our RBNZ team.
God weaves things together, it’s what he does. God IS always working and he invites us to join him in his work of redemption in the world and the building of his Kingdom, whether it be here in our local community or overseas in a remote Ghanaian village.
Please remember, that I have some great video footage of our time in the villages in Ghana that I would love to show to your church or homegroup. It is such a privilege to tell the stories of lives changed and of all the other wonderful things that are happening here in NZ and around the world, as the ministry of Reach Beyond fulfills its mission of Sharing Jesus, Giving Hope, and Transforming Communities.
